Weeping Angel VR

I have been a long time fan of Doctor Who, its cast of creatures and characters and I have always wanted to experience some of the magic of that show in VR. One of my all-time favorite creatures from the show, was the Weeping Angel, a creature that could instantly kill you if it touched you, and could only move when you couldn't see it.

That is something that would pair PERFECTLY with the medium of VR, a creature that could only move to you when you cant see it, a survival horror mini-game would be absolutely perfect, so that's exactly what I am working on.

I have put some effort into this app now, adding several

features for the angels themselves, how they interact with

the player, how the path around the player, and how

the world lighting should/would be setup. it is nothing

more than a prototype, but I have a few game design ideas I

would love to test that I think would work well with a mechanic like this.

After a lot of iteration, I came to a version of the Angels that works mostly in a scenario with multiple angels. Each angel individually operates in 3 modes, Mode One is a wander mode, mode 2 is a hunt mode, and mode 3 is an attack mode. Each angel switches to these modes based on whether or not it has seen the player, pairing this with a flashlight creates a pretty interesting environment, where the player can be unaware of an angel entirely unless they are constantly checking their surroundings.

After a bit of soul searching, I found a gameplay loop I figured could be interesting for a game with these mechanics. A horror based, resource gathering multiplayer game for VR. I built a power and battery system that affects the lighting in the level. The players goal is to go around and retrieve batteries from individual power stations across the level, then they go back to a starting area and deposit it in their own battery banks. The player can only hold so much power on the player at a time. The goal is to get as much power to the starting area as possible, however as the power goes down, the lights in the level dim, making it easier for the angels to get near the player undetected.
